Invisalign Treatment at Maccaro Orthodontics & Pediatric Dentistry

In Dr. Maccaro’s experienced hands, Invisalign can accomplish many of the same things as traditional braces. Invisalign is no longer limited to simple Class I adult cases; it can correct severe crowding, deep bites, open bites, overbites, and underbites. Advancements in Invisalign technology, combined with Dr. Maccaro’s extensive training in treating with Invisalign, has allowed him to offer Invisalign to more people than ever before.

While almost all of our patients can be treated with Invisalign, the most important criteria for an Invisalign patient is motivation! Invisalign requires compliance on behalf of the patient, so you’ll need to decide if the commitment to wearing your aligners is right for you.

What is it?

Invisalign treatment uses a series of virtually invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that allow you to smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign clear aligners are made with 3D computer imaging technology and have been proven effective. More than 70% of orthodontists in the US and Canada are certified to administer Invisalign treatment, including Dr. Maccaro!

Why would I want it?

Not only are the aligners virtually invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also more comfortable than traditional braces, with no metal or wires, which also usually means you spend less time at Maccaro Orthodontics getting adjustments. Using our brand new iTero® Element™ scanner, we can even simulate what your smile will look like before and after Invisalign treatment!

Dr. Maccaro treats people of all ages with Invisalign. If your teenager doesn't want traditional braces, Invisalign Teen® may be an option! Invisalign Teen is an exceptional product with some extra features that take into account parents' concerns about the effectiveness of their teenager’s Invisalign use. In addition to free replacement for lost aligners, Invisalign Teen includes compliance indicators so we can track how well the patient is wearing the trays and keep them accountable.

How does it work?

During your initial consultation at our Garden City office, Dr. Maccaro will take photographs of your teeth and smile so he can more easily discuss your treatment. After a brief exam, he will go over your concerns, expectations, and goals for your orthodontic treatment. If you choose Invisalign, we will send your digital impressions to the Invisalign lab, and you’ll soon be on your way to a new, straight smile!

Once you receive your aligners, you’ll wear each set for about 7-10 days, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to their final positions.

One of the best things about Invisalign is the reduction of adjustment appointments. You’ll only need to visit Dr. Maccaro every eight weeks so he can monitor your progress and give you the next series of trays. Overall treatment time depends on the severity of your case. Some treatments are as short as a few months, but most average about one to two years.

As with traditional braces, you’ll be given retainers at the end of treatment to wear at night. In cases of severe crowding or spacing, we may recommend permanent bonded retainers in addition to nightly retainers.
